A French Bread Box

Hello all! I am so happy because one of my thrift store finds has finally been finished, a $3 bread box! I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, so it just sat there for weeks as I walked passed it, piled stuff on top of it, stared at it with that "what am I going to do with you?" stare from time to time...

Well, I was cutting up French bread for a dip I made (and it was yummy by the way...it is called Jalapeno Popper Dip), and the idea finally came to me! I'll make it French!

Unfortunately, I got a little ahead of myself with the glee of finally deciding on something so I could get that thing off of my chair and into my booth, I forgot to take a before picture. I have to say, it didn't look too bad, it was just a very dark wood and it was missing a screw.

So, I replaced the screw, primed and painted it white, distressed it with steel wool, found a font that I wanted and an English to French translator site on google to translate a few different words, and this is what I came up with...I hand painted the word "bread" in french "Le pain," on the door ...

I added the year "1939" just because I wanted to...

Went back over it with the steel wool while the paint was still tacky...

and here it is!

These were some of the words I played around with
until I found what I was looking for

I'm not sure if I'm going to shabby it up a bit more or leave it like that, so it is going
back on my chair for a few more days
until I decide!
