A Christmas Banner

Yesterday was a good day to stay inside and do some of the Christmas crafts that I have been wanting to try! It was cold and rainy here (wish the rain had been the snow everyone else seems to be getting).
I have been seeing these Christmas banners everywhere and they are darling! I went to my all-time favorite site The Graphics Fairy and printed out several of her beautiful, vintage Christmas images.

I also used Christmas scrapbook paper, hemp, and old book pages.

I cut the paper to the size I wanted my squares to be, matched up the pictures to the color paper, hole punched them and ran the hemp through each one.

I had to tie smaller pieces of the hemp before and after each picture so it would keep them in place and they wouldn't all slide down to one end (of course I didn't think of this until after I had strung all the pictures first...then I just sat there staring at them for a few minutes like they were going to just tell me what to do to fix the problem).

I didn't want to use any lettering, I just wanted the pictures, and I love the way it turned out! It was a great project to do while sitting on the living room floor, watching Christmas movies in my sweats and knee socks!

Oh my....I just saw two tiny snowflakes (I am typing this at 6:49 a.m. on Monday morning). I hope it turns into a lot of tiny (or large...I'm not picky) snowflakes!!!

  2. Years ago, we would spend part of Christmas Eve with my husband's grandmother. She had Christmas cards drapped in her living room across a piece of string similar to what you did here with vintage cards. After we began our family, we took up that tradition. In recent years, I haven't done it, though. I really like your idea and perhap may try doing this for next Christmas. Very good job and how nostagic!

  3. Love this banner! The little knots that separate the cards are both functional and decorative!
