Advent Books

I was reading a post by Melissa on her blog 320 Sycamore, about using books to countdown the days until Christmas with her children. Why have I never thought of this? We have an advent calendar that my little one gets from her preschool (the kind that you open the door every day), and we have our advent wreath, but for a family who LOVES to read...this was a perfect tradition to start in our family too!

I gathered up all of the Christmas/Winter books that we had on hand...

and wouldn't you just know it...I was missing one! So, I thought it would be fun for the kids to make their own Christmas story. I took regular printer paper, folded it over and stapled it, then  I used Christmas scrapbook paper for the cover....

and now I can wrap these and add them to the book basket! I also pulled out Christmas pages from the millions of catalogs that have been coming to the house (telling me they miss me, that it may be last one ever, or they haven't heard from me in awhile) so they could cut out pictures and use them in their story too!

They haven't gotten to the make-it-yourself book yet! So far it has been a success, it makes us sit down every night together to read and they love it! My two girls take turns with picking out the book for the day(and so far the boxing gloves have not come out yet...perfect)!

I did, however, number one of the books #24 and put it in the back of the basket so the kids would save that one for Christmas Eve. My husband always reads the Grinch to us before they put the milk and cookies out and go to bed ( my absolute favorite part in the book is where the Grinch says "Pooh-Pooh to the Who's!" I know, very immature but I snicker every single time.)

Thank You Melissa
This was a great idea!
